Breathtaking. That is the first word that comes to mind when flipping through the spectacular visual art in this book. The dark cover photo of a relaxed, beautiful flaxen chestnut horse sets the tone for this set of pictorial works.

Many of Stromberg's photos have dark colors and depict wild horses running free across the countryside. They are vivid depictions of horses that are truly liberated in all senses of the word. Looking at them gives viewers a different sense of what their lives must be like and how they think than simply reading about them.

These wild horses are dignified, they are beautiful, and they are precious. Palominos, bays, pintos, grays and roans traverse the landscape during a beautiful sunset or on a dusty summer day. Lights sparkles through their manes in the dew on the brink of dawn. Eyelashes frame images that are reflected in their eyes. They love life, running and each other.
